How You Can Have Your Say

If you are making a submission regarding Turramurra Town Centre planning or the Aquatic / Leisure Centre Study, Friends of Turramurra asks you to consider sending us a copy. We would like to collate all the issues raised by residents and businesses into a submission to send to Council, the Minister for Local Government and the Minister for Planning. To send us a copy of your submission, e-mail us at copy_fot@turrafriends.com or post us a copy at the postal address HERE

There are still a number of opportunities for you to have a say in the future of Turramurra.

1) There will be an independent Public Hearing into the reclassification of Community Land. It will be critical for residents to attend this meeting and make submissions to Council on this subject if this land is to be retained in public ownership and saved from development. The date of the hearing has yet to be decided. This information will be made available on this web site as soon as it becomes available. You can also join our e-mail list so that Friends of Turramurra can notify you of the hearing date and other important events. To do so, e-mail us at email_me@turrafriends.com

2) You can write to the Director General of the Department of Local Government, Mr Garry Payne, (details HERE) and Minister for Local Government (details HERE) to make your opposition to the reclassification of Community Land known.

Information about Community Land is HERE

3) Assuming the Minister for Planning gives approval, there will be a formal exhibition of the plans for Turramurra that will last for at least 28 days (dates unknown at this time). During this exhibition it will be critical that residents and businesses make submissions to Council regarding their concerns. You can do this by writing to the Council (see below) and / or by addressing Council at one of their meetings. To address Council you must register prior to he commencement of the meeting (before 6:45pm) and ask to speak on a topic of general interest (rather than an item on the agenda). You are given only 3 minutes to have your say so be prepared and rehearse. Thankfully, if you are not speaking to an agenda item you will be allowed to speak at the beginning of general business section so you should have finished by 7:30pm.

4) Write to the Ku-ring-gai Councillors and General Manager to make your concerns known. In particular, write to the Councillors who have voted in favour of the plans - Crs Nick Ebbeck, Adrienne Ryan, Anita Andrew, Michael Lane, Tony hall, Jennifer Anderson and Maureen Shelley. Make sure you circulate a copy to the Mayor, Elaine Malicki, and the General Manager, John McKee. Contact details for the Councillors are HERE and for the General Manager you should address your submission to Mr John McKee, General Manager Ku-ring-gai Council - e-mail mckee@kmc.nsw.gov.au or the general Council postal address HERE

If you send an e-mail to Council, always circulate it to the general Council address as well as to the individuals involved. This way a record is kept that your submission was received. Do this by including kmc@kmc.nsw.gov.au in the Cc list of your e-mail.

5) You can write to the Minister for Local Government (details HERE) to make your opposition to the Turramurra Town Centre plans known. If you do this, we would suggest you also send a copy to the Mayor of Ku-ring-gai, Elaine Malicki (contact details HERE, or the general Council postal address HERE).
